Protective Coatings
Surface Performance Coatings Visimax Surface Performance Coatings are functional thin-film layers engineered to enhance the durability, cleanability, and handling characteristics of optical components without compromising optical performance. These coatings are commonly applied as final top surface layers and are compatible with Visimax’s full portfolio of optical coatings. Surface Performance Coatings are designed and manufactured in-house using controlled vacuum deposition processes, with a focus on repeatability, durability, and system-level compatibility.
Oleophobic & Hydrophobic Surface Coatings
Visimax offers oleophobic and hydrophobic surface coatings designed to reduce fingerprints, oils, and water adhesion on optical surfaces, improving both cosmetic appearance and long-term usability.
Typical characteristics include:
- Reduced fingerprint visibility and smudging
- Improved cleanability with common solvents and detergents
- Hydrophobic and oleophobic surface behavior
- Compatibility with multiple substrates, including glass and polymer materials
- Application as a final top surface layer over AR, reflective, or protective coatings
These coatings are commonly used on fingerprint-sensitive optics, including displays, sensors, viewing windows, and user-handled optical components.
Available from prototype through high-volume production.

Durable & Protective Surface Coatings
For applications requiring enhanced resistance to handling, cleaning, and environmental exposure, Visimax provides durable surface performance coatings engineered to protect underlying optical stacks.
Typical characteristics include:
- Improved resistance to abrasion and handling wear
- Enhanced adhesion and surface robustness
- Compatibility with repeated cleaning cycles
- Integration with optical coating stacks, including anti-reflection and reflective designs
- Tailored performance based on substrate and application requirements
These coatings are well suited for optical components used in industrial, aerospace, defense, and ruggedized environments, where long-term performance must be maintained beyond initial installation.
This is our onboarding process
We make getting started fast and predictable. Together we capture your optical goals, translate them into a thin-film design, and validate performance before scaling. Clear hand-offs, no surprises.

Requirements & scope
Define application, wavelength range, substrates, environment, target transmission/reflectance, and timeline. Capture risks and constraints, and align on measurable success criteria.
Thin-film design & simulation
Design the stack and simulate the spectral response across your range. Present options with trade-offs and tolerances, then lock the baseline design.
Prototype & metrology
Produce representative sample coatings for evaluation. Measure via spectrophotometry/interferometry and share trace + variance to target.
Production & quality
Scale to batch or volume with tight process control. Run repeatability checks, document QA, and approve first-article before full run.
Delivery & support
Pack and ship to spec with certificates and reports. Provide ongoing technical support and iterate when requirements evolve.
